- Niente tetti scoperchiati o fiancate rigate: Imposti altezza, larghezza, lunghezza e peso: ponti bassi, strettoie storiche e balconi a sbalzo li evita da lontano.
Buoni chilometri e buona strada a tutti!
Hello everyone! I want to share a misadventure that many of you have probably experienced at least once.
A while ago, following an alleged "quick shortcut" on Google Maps to bypass some traffic, I found myself on a rocky cart track with a crazy incline. Result: wheels spinning in vain, clutch smelling burnt, worried kids on board, and a drop of cold sweat running down my spine.
When I got back home, I called a dear developer friend and told him: «I don't want to risk breaking my camper ever again. Let me work with you to build a navigation app that thinks like a true motorhome driver and not like a compact car».
From that moment, the CamperNav project was born. I guided him step-by-step, removing all those nightmare triggers that give us white hairs driving a heavy vehicle:
- Not even half an unpaved road: If a road doesn't have real asphalt, the app discards it immediately.
- No more engine-breaking climbs: Set the maximum steepness your rig can swallow without boiling the engine or burning brakes on the descent.
- No torn roofs or scratched sides: Set your height, width, length, and weight: low bridges, narrow historic alleys, and overhanging balconies are avoided from afar.
- End circus maneuvers: No U-turns in the middle of highways blocking the world. And when entering a campsite or rest area, it always brings you in with the gate on your side of the road, without cutting across oncoming traffic.
- Chosen gas stations and cent-accurate prices: Tell it how much fuel you have left in the tank and it calculates when to stop, but only at your preferred pumps and showing only the fuel type you actually use.
- Maps that don't disappear on mountain passes: Download the map beforehand and navigate peacefully offline even when there's no signal for miles.
- Transparent campsites and zero traffic jams: Clear rates before arriving, verified essential services, and real-time traffic combining TomTom and Google data.
It's not a commercial app for sale and there's nothing to buy: right now I am personally road-testing it to spot every possible flaw and refine it in the field.
I would love a hand from fellow motorhome enthusiasts driving miles during this period, to test it on different routes and give me honest feedback.
If you'd like to try it during your next trips, send us a message and we'll gladly send you the file to install on your phone. Safe travels and happy roads to everyone!
